NGAC Endorsement of the Platform

The National Geospatial Advisory Committee (NGAC) reviewed the draft version of the Geospatial Platform Roadmap earlier this year and provided initial comments and suggestions. The NGAC is encouraged that the Administration has called for the creation of the Geospatial Platform and looks forward to continued engagement. The NGAC passed a resolution in support of the Platform in June:

“The NGAC endorses the Geospatial Platform concept as described in the Platform Roadmap and encourages the Administration, along with federal agency leadership, to adopt, support, and implement this initiative in partnership with State, local, regional and Tribal governments.”

Platform governance is a topic in which the committee has a particular interest. We would be interested to hear comments and suggestions from the community on how to establish a collaborative and effective governance model for the Platform.

Thank you for the opportunity to comment.

  1. NGAC should consider a stronger position than meerly supporting the Roadmap. Demanding, kicking, cajoling, shaming FGDC and other federal leaders into making the Roadmap more than a position paper - are words that come to mind. As NSGIC has pointed out in its comments, as a national efforts after 20+ years of talking anout the NSDI, resolve to wait for the federal government to lead the nation to the future is waning. Time to act. And NGAC should take the leadership and say so. I approve this idea, but with stronger emphasis.
