The apathy of the geospatial community to the Geospatial Platform is evident by the lack of responses to this site. There have been too many experiments, pilot projects, failed standards and good but unfunded ideas that have peaked the interest of the geospatial community, but only resulted in this increasing level of apathy. If this effort fails, it is very likely that the community will simply not engage in future Federal efforts, and there will never be a National Spatial Data Infrastructure even if the Federal government succeeds in building its own spatial data infrastructure.

Sir,
Thank you for your comments, however I respectfully disagree. I believe that the lack of teeth of the FGDC has primarily been the stubmling block.
Secondly, The FGDC as a whole needs to be changed to not be only run by volunteers, but to have a full time staff fully dedicated to the NSDI and other such geospatial initiatives.
Thank you for listening.
Respectfully
I disagree with your statement about apathy. This is the first opportunity that I have had to review the Geospatial Platform and the first time that a NSGIC outreach article penetrated my constant stream of emails and overwhelming workload as GIS Coordinator for the State of Rhode Island. I suggest that NSGIC be more clear as to the urgency of matters like this in their communications with their state government members, and do so in a manner similar to notifications of upcoming annual and midyear meetings for example.
I believe the apathy comes from this website not being promoted and sent out to all of the Geospatial Community. That community does not just include those that work in GIS but also all of the related fields (i.e, surveying and mapping, engineering, architecture, etc...). I just received this email today, 12/29 and am wondering how many other people out there have actually even seen this. Based on the people that have actually signed up and commented, they have only been a member for a few days. I will be sending this out to the Surveying Community in Florida and to the ACSM/NSPS to get their input. It needs to be promoted more widely in my view.
This is perhaps one of the most important points regarding the platform. Failure to move forward and take it through to completion (including adequate funding), will be like crying wolf again. It will be catastrophic for future potential endeavors from the federal level where local, state and regional input are necessary.
